When will Canada give us the next Rush? You guys owe us after Bryan Adams and Barenaked Ladies.

There will never be another Rush. I'm really sorry about Bryan Adams and Barenaked Ladies AND Celine.

We tried to give you Pam Anderson and Elisha Cuthbert to distract you but it doesn't seem to be working!!

BTW: Do you like Rush, Cheese?

And N'awleans was settled by the Acadians who were kicked out of Canada by the Brits!

You think that's Spanish they speak?

Thank God! Talented musicians individually, but pretentious rock and the worst - vocalist - ever in Geddy "Helium Throat" Lee. Not my cup of tea.

How can't you like Rush?!?! One of my favorite Rush lyrics.......aplicable to earlier FS comment about how the music business today blows:

Invisible airwaves crackle with life
Bright antennae bristle with the energy
Emotional feedback, on a timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price ---
Almost free...

All this machinery making modern music
Can still be open-hearted
Not so coldly charted, its really just a question
Of your honesty, yea your honesty

One likes to believe in the freedom of music
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
Shatter the illusion of integrity

What about these lyrics?

Coo coo coo coo coo....
Take off to the great white north
Its a beauty way to go
Take off to the great white north

Take off to the great white north
Its a beauty way to go
Take off to the great white north

(reapeat till end )

as much as I hate to admitt it I got to go with England on this one (my Irish ancestors are rolling in their graves)
England gave us Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and led Zepplin . . .
We returned the favor with 1980's hair bands and glam metal

Aaaaawwww Salesmen! Ugh - got so sick of hearing that song in the 80s!

Anyone remember the poor man's Rush and another Canadian band, Triumph? Great guitarist in Rik Emmett, but more of the same, just a bit more structured.

Give me ELP over Rush if I really want pomposity in my rock & roll trios!:D

Damn straight :mug:

Hey Cheese, I saw Satriani play at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston probably close to 20 years ago--is he still around?

I can't believe none of you have thrown out America's true pride and joy: The Allman Brothers.

If I had to go live on an island and could only bring either my Stones and Zepplin or my Allmans and Dead, well....I'd be in a bind. :cross:

Satriani is great. He's taken to the shaved-head look these days. Kicks Eddie Van's butt. And I like Eddie, the short-tongued egomaniac.

Our Pride and Joy are Skynyrd, the Eagles, Elvis and Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

Oooh, tough call. But it's England by a hair.
Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Stones
Black Sabbath
Jethro Tull (yes, I said Jethro Tull :))
Clapton
etc.

Should the next poll be:

Which country's Major Tom kicks more ass?

England - Bowie - Space Oddity
Germany - Peter Schilling - Major Tom (Coming Home)

End of discussion.

oddly enuff as I read that post my zippo sood up on my desk, popped open, and lit all by it's self :rockin: . . . which was perfect timing cuz I was about to have a cig

America...

After all the other acts cancel each other out, America lays down the trump card...

Frank Zappa

Hmm...I say America. Rock is an American tradition. Other countries (including Britain) caught on and contributed. Even though The Beatles are often credited with popularizing rock music in its infancy, the majority of their record sales were in America.

The Recording Industry Association of America certified the Beatles as the highest selling band of all time based on American sales of singles and albums.

So, Britain may have some great contributions (all mentioned in previous posts), but America made rock what it is.

FREE BIRD.

I've noticed there are many good bands coming out of Canada these days. The New Pornographers, The Destroyers, The Stills, Hot Hot Heat, and the Arcade Fire have all been bands I wished had been playing when I lived in Canada.
