Live Oak Gold and American Football...

Those Kinsella brothers tho.

Album is Smashing Pumpkins - Pisces Iscariot. Latest great music thread made me realize that I generally forget about this album because I don't have it on vinyl, so I've fixed that. Some weird mastering on this though, which is kind of a downer. Picked up several albums today as Juke Records is having a going out of business sale, so I anticipate drunk posting a lot of stuff in this thread this week. Then not much for a while until I find another record store to frequent.

Damn...super sad about this news. That place is a Pittsburgh institution.

Yup. I feel really bad too, he is a super nice guy and would always chat every time I came in. Pretty knowledgeable too, even with more obscure current bands. I know you've still got your finger on the pulse of this city...you have any recs on where I should go now to get new release stuff?

I never made it over to Get Hip’s actual store in the north side, cause it opened after I left. They were always just mail order before that opened a couple years ago. Have you been there yet? No idea what their stock is like but I’m sure they have some good stuff.

Re: Jim’s/Paul’s/Sound Cat/Juke - so much history for so many music junkies in that area. Sucks.

You try The Attic in millvale?

Album: The Claypool Lennon Delirium - South of Reality. Beer: Dancing Gnome - Stained Glass Ceilings.

I think this is the first album from this year that I've gotten. Looks pretty slick and the animated labels are a nice touch. Lyrically it could use some work, but the instrumentals are on point, as they usually are with Les Claypool.

Most of my weekend buying was focused on filling some longstanding gaps in our collection and this was biggest on my list. It's one of those albums that I can always find so I always put it aside for "next time". Really shouldn't do that for ones this good. In other news, Hitchhiker's barrel-aged Woke is legit.

Next up is another album that took me way too long to buy considering how much I listen to it. Beer is the same, letting it warm up, see where it takes me. Hope no one minds, I've got several more new records and a fridge full of beer.

Not nearly enough pixies in this thread. I’ve gotta fill out my collection as well.

Only one I own. They're one of those bands that I started listening to when I was too poor to buy a bunch of records. I could sit here all day listening to Shellac's Prayer to God and Pixies Where Is My Mind (or really any song from this album) and not get tired of it.

I have definitely taken the lazy/cheap way out with the pixies and only own that double LP greatest hits thing. Which is excellent. But there are way too many lesser known gems on nearly every single one of their records for that to be acceptable. Kind of like you said - I know all the songs so well, it’s hard to spend the money. “I’ll get it all eventually”. Like with beer - would rather buy the new exciting **** I’ve never heard/drank than the classics I know and love.

My general thought process goes like this for records: I should get this new record now before it becomes expensive. Once the record becomes expensive, well I'm not paying that much now...maybe later, or maybe it'll be repressed. Then once it gets repressed, well, it's easy to get now, I'll get it later.

Speaking of repressed, this got put out again late last year and as much as I like having OG pressings in my collection...I really didn't want to spend $100 to get it. I wrote about this a bit in the appropriate great music thread, suffice to say, The Roots are awesome and this is one of the finest concept albums ever put out. Add the track Sleep to the list of songs I could sit here and listen to all day.

FIIIIIIIINALLY got my ish set up. excited to finally put these speakers to use. they had been hiding in my (former) basement for a couple years. but I’m mostly unpacked at the new house.

it’s been quite some time since I posted, and I’d rather have jumped back in with a different spin, but my contracter unloaded 5 boxes of vinyl on me after seeing my shelves. so I’m working my way through it to see what is keep-able. not sure this one will make the ‘keep’ pile.

whiskey is a gpiufmb spec’s oesk.

Planet B is a side project of Justin Pearson from The Locust and hip-hop producer Luke Henshaw. Still not entirely sure where I land on this one, but I still really like a lot of what Pearson has done so it's worth a shot. Can't really tell on the black slipmat, but the record itself is a really nice green with some black marbling.

Just gonna post this here: https://upcomingvinyl.com

Had been relying on my local shop's emails/social media posts for new vinyl releases. Never much liked the Amoeba Music formatting or New Releases Now or AllMusic or anything else. But recently found this and I dig it. It seems to be largely complete, has images for everything and the link automatically updates to archive old ****...or at least pushes it out of view in some way.

That's what I've been using to stay up to date on bigger releases. It isn't perfect...I've seen it have releases on the wrong dates a few times and they have issues with incorrect picture/description of albums, butoverall it's a great starting point. I've also been making it a point to listen to the new release recs that Spotify generates each week; got turned onto some good stuff that way. Still gonna hit December and go through year end stuff and find a lot of good that just flew under my radar though, I'm sure.
