Brain Tentacles - s/t. Avant garde sax driven metal. I hate plastic sleeves in photos as much as the next guy, but if you zoom in that hype sticker sells this album better than I can.

Beer is the same....sometimes albums are over pretty much by the time beer hits glass. On that note, this is a self-titled garage punk album that came out late last year...it's about 20 minutes long. See you all in a few...I'll be the guy drinking the same damn beer. Incidentally, both this album and the Flat Worms album were things I came across while browsing upcomingvinyl and checked them out because the name/cover looked like it could be something I would like.

Okay... so much like Young Fathers last year, my early front-runner for 2019 album of the year is completely unexpected. This **** is heavy duty in my percussion-loving wheelhouse. Afrobeat, modern/smooth-jazz, tribal chant...****** psych funk. This thing hits so many musical g-spots for me. Having played in (my first afrobeat love) Antibalas and then Sharon Jones' backing Dap-Tones...and knowing this was an organic creation during her last year of touring....it feels important. Like a jumping off point for the post-Jones era for Dap-Tone. There are too many intangibles.

Hits heavy from the onset.

plus look at this ******* packaging...this is why collecting vinyl will always be my #1 hobby (sorry beer)...

A die-cut sleeve, with the record insert on the inside...and then some badass Native American symbol on the inside of the sleeve...

Just too much fun and the music is too important to me.

Yeah, not all that impressed. Maybe a handful of things I'll be buying. Last year's list was much better. Hoping things get added.

Definites
13th Floor Elevators
Weezer b-sides and rarities thing just to have Suzanne on vinyl cause it's my favorite song from them.

Probablys
Devo box set
Rancid and Bad Religion 3"s just cause what the **** is a 3"??!?

Maybes
Best of Townes Van Zandt - usually hate best ofs, but in this case it might match my interest level of the artist
Random 7"s/12"s
Pietasters
X-Ray Spex

Soulda actually read the list....X-Ray Spex, Weezer and Pietasters are maybes for me.

3" are the newest gimmick attempt to ruin vinyl collecting. I really hope that **** doesn't take off.

Reminds me of a more Latin version of Budos Band.

But then there's all that Native American chant in there too...it's a pretty broad mix of influence all centered around percussion. I can't stop listening to it.

Wow, just read this guy is originally from San Diego. Check out Sure Fire Soul Assemble if you dig his stuff. A SD band with very similar influences and sound.

I would probably add Czarface and the Night Beats record to this list. But I have never done a record store day, so I probably will not start now.

I mean yeah, if you want more local shops like Juke to close down because these will be an even more difficult format with which to turn a profit.

I was completely joking, but please elaborate. If they don’t turn profit just don’t bring them into your store right? Or are you saying that that might be unavoidable if they become popular?
