Album is Loved, the newest from KEN mode. Beer is not something I had to wake up early to get. Seriously, **** you BCBS. But yeah, house to myself all week and a fridge full of big winter releases.

Album is Medium Rarities from Cattle Decapitation...bunch of demos/rarities/etc that came out last week. I was on the fence about this one but the patterning of the vinyls in their mock ups were beautiful. Then I opened my copy. **** you Metal Blade, see when I buy something from you again. Beer is solid, would drink again.

Album is The Wall (Redux). Got this for my wife since she really likes Pink Floyd and we both really like stoner rock and metal etc. For my part, I never really got into Pink Floyd, but a cover of one of the few albums of theirs that I do know headlined by songs from The Melvins, Scott Reeder, and Mark Lanegan....I couldn't resist. Listened to a few songs prior to this and the Sasquatch track was pretty solid. Beer is something I haven't had in a few years. It's funny, in Boston I couldn't find this to save my life unless I wanted to spend $20+ but I could get BCBS for months. In Pittsburgh I can't get BCBS but I can get this easily for $7+ less than I was last able to find it in Boston.

Album is Mosquito Control by Isis. Though this particular copy is a 2018 repress, unlike my previous posts this album isn't originally from this year, it came out in 1998. The beer used to be my go to special occasion beer many years ago when it was stupid expensive in bombers. First time I've had one in a few years...still good, but this profile has become a lot easier/cheaper to find since I first discovered it.

You got a top five albums of the year? Always happy to find new music to listen to or have my tastes confirmed.

I'm too dumb to post pictures, but I love following this thread. 2018 album that's received the most spins in my house is definitely Spiritualized's And Nothing Hurt. Maybe I'll make an exception soon.

My 2018 album is KIDS SEE GHOSTS but I'm as fanboy as it gets.

Followed really closely by Thee Oh Sees-Smote Reverser.

Then Ye. Hate all you want. Love it.

Then that Daughters' album.

Then Freddie Gibbs-Freddie

I did a best of! First time in a while for a year.

Through Cruel Summer I was a huge Kanye stan, but he's really been dead to me since Yeezus.

Freddie Gibbs is still amazing in my book.

I don't really have specific albums or bands but there are a handful of songs that I gravitate towards in these situations, currently including but not limited to: Mazzy Star - Fade Into You, Beirut - Elephant Gun, PJ Harvey - When Under Ether, Fugazi - I'm So Tired. Arcade Fire's Tunnels used to be great when it was snowy and I was riding the commuter rail home, but it's been years since I've had to do that.

Sometimes after mentally exhausting days like those I can't sleep if I can't give my mind something to focus on other than the overwhelming calm emptiness of silence and darkness, so I made a 39 hour Spotify playlist of Vitamin String Quartet covers that I'll play on random. I'll lay there trying to see how fast/accurately I can name the band/song being covered and that usually works.

Rad! I've actually never listened to Mazzy Star. Definitely curious about Fugazi song. ISO of riding a commuter train in a snowy landscape.

Townes- Live at the old quarter

Floyd- either Dark side or Wish you were here

That Townes live album is probably my favorite release of his. To the point where I'd rather just listen to Live at the... over his studio albums. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wish I had the patience to be a part of full time 7” culture. Such good **** out there...

Example 1a

Wooden Shjips covering Neil Young - Vanpire Blues

Whoa. Didn't know that 7" existed. ISO. The 7" section used to be the first part of the record store I'd go to. Nowadays I much prefer that 12" format for listening to while I'm around the house.

Did anyone go Black Friday/Small Business Saturday shopping for records?

Apparently it’s kind of like record store day but not quite as over the top. Had no idea. Will have to wait until next week to see what’s left cause I’ve got a house full of family right now - used up my lone weekend escape card to go out and get some BCBS.

Man, this post reminds me of some incredibly sad news. My favorite local record store is closing next year. Apparently vinyl and used books don't make you enough money to sustain a business. What I liked about this specific spot is that the staff was super chill and they carried all the weirdo noise, punk, loaf eye, outsider country, whatever I love. Such is life, it was real while it lasted though.

oh, also.. there's some select Christmas stuff that I'll pick up on about this time of year. a California outfit called Future of Forestry has a set of 3 eps of Christmas music that is kick ass.
YES. My wife loves Christmas music so I will eagerly be checking this out.

I saw Isis with Zozobra and Jesu years ago. The phrase "choking your instrument" comes to mind. Incredibly heavy.

Ooof, not really...most of them fall under "good enough for now," and I'm positive I'll discover my actual top albums of 2018 next year, but here goes:

Ken Mode
Electric Six - Bride of the Devil
Pig Destroyer - Head Cage
Sandrider - Armada
Dead Now - s/t (ex-Torche....this ep/album smokes)

The verdict is still out on the below (they're either too recent or I just need to revisit)

Sick of it All - Wake the Sleeping Dragon
Culture Abuse - Bay Dream
Upper Wilds - Mars
Uncle Acid - Wasteland
Superchunk - (forgot the name)
****** Up - Dose Your Dreams
Wisdom in Chains - Nothing In Nature Respects Weakness...something like that

Thank you, I've got a few more things on my list of albums to check out now. Not sure how I missed those Pig Destroyer and Dead Now albums being released but...here we are.

Didn't go out to the store but snagged a few things on ebay for cheap. Borns Live album, Wombats EP, and the Dead Kennedys session thing. These "events" keep getting less and less interesting every year, I usually only find 2-3 things I sort of want for RSD or Black friday.

Any chance that has less to do with the selection for the events and more to do with getting old?

I think they're just trying to reach a different audience now. It's not about repressing weird or hard to get albums, it's about hyping up 1,000 copy releases of Space Jam, Kidz Bop Christmas and ****** picture discs. So basically it's a hazy beer release now. All the colored T Swift albums do tempt me though...

Outlaw country/bluegrass is my current ****.

Hand Me Down My Walking Cane lyrics...

I got high, lord I got in jail
Lord I got high, and I got in jail
I got high and I got in jail, had nobody for to go my bail
My sins, they have overtaken me

Well, the beans was tough, and the meat was fat
Oh the beans was tough, and the meat was fat
Well the beans was tough, and the meat was fat
Oh good God, I couldn't eat that
My sins, they have overtaken me

Well it's come on Ma, and go my bail
Lord come on Mom, and go my bail
Come on Mama and go my bail
Get me outta this Nashville jail
My sins, they have overtaken me

Well if I die in Tennessee
Lord if I die, in Tennessee
Boy if I die in Tennessee
Ship me back by C.O.D.,
My sins, they have overtaken me

I do ******* mostly hate picture discs...unless I'm fanboying out about something...or my kids are geeked about some overpriced ******* marvel **** (cause I'll pay any price for my kids to ask me to drop the needle, srs, it's my weakness).

I don't know man, everything is exponentially condensed and cheapened any more...but I still I need this.

Maybe I'm "the different audience", lol.
