Today I opened my first America $&#* Yeah Brown Ale. Before I tell you how it is, I have tell you about the brew day. We definitely got a little tipsy making this one, which is where the name comes from. That and it's an American Brown Ale (a little nod to the Team America movie as well).

First of all, we just had a bunch of leftover ingredients lying around. Specialty grains, malt extracts, yeast, hops and some molasses. We started drinking and then came up with the idea to try to make a beer out of what we had. We hammered out a recipe in about 30 minutes, and got to work. I won't share the whole recipe, just because I kinda think it was an experiment and not so good it would be worth repeating, but I will say this: in the brewing notes, I wrote (sloppily) "9:15: added 1 oz. of Makers Mark, and a dash of molasses." I don't know what a dash of molasses is, but it was too much. As for the MM, I think that was fairly good for it.
We almost forgot to add the yeast, spilled wort, sanitizer, beer, and LME all over my kitchen, and forgot to add gypsum and Irish moss. I kinda passed this one off as one that wouldn't ever be very good.

However... Amazingly it's not that bad. It's a little heavy on the molasses (I think I put half a bottle in there. That's how much was missing when I went to brew another beer, but who knows? We were three sheets to the wind), but overall, pretty decent. I'm not going to mind drinking this one, although I don't think I'm going to give any away. It's just not up to our usual standards.

my pumpkin ale was along the same lines, my and my brew partner were drinking not to mention other things, there was all kinds of people in the house visiting at the time, we made up the recipe...amazingly its a great beer. now makers mark in the beer--i guess we werent that drunk, but youre combining two of my loves, whiskey and beer..mmmmmmmmmm...

You know what? I actually have changed my mind. This is a good beer.

As to the MM, I think it lent a good flavor to it. I may have to try it in another beer, granted one that we don't drink most of the bottle making.

Molasses mellows out into a malt-like flavor that really puzzles people.

Made one "party" batch about three years ago. Forgot to add the yeast. Fortunately, it was a smack pac, so Michael noticed in the morning & it turned out fine.
