In the glorious state of Colorado marijuana has recently become fully legal. One of my stoner friends suggested a thc infused cider...I'm wondering if its been done or even possible. Would thc prevent or act as an inhibitor to yeast, fermentation? Just curious.

Yes and no. THC is not soluble in water alone it requires a fatty substance to cling onto, or a pure alcohol tincture. Who wants oil in Cider though, so make a tincture and infuse. Not worth the effort, buy a vaporizer and make quality cider to wash the cottonmouth.

Pot is very closely related to hops. I don't know if you'll get any thc in a solution but if you were brewing beer you could treat it like hops for flavor, maybe. I've never done it as it seems like a waste and would make for one hell of an expensive drink even if you grow it. I agree with the above post, just use your cider as way to cure your persistent Cotten mouth.

Thanks. I'm not to educated on pot just was somewhat curious because a buddy of mine had some kind of pot soda. And he had mentioned a pot beer his friend had made and asked me if I could do a cider with it. I'll key him in on the info.

The alcohol will absorb the thc. You can do it but unless somebody's giving it to you, why waste it. That is, unless its dirt weed. In that case keep it away from everything and put it in the trash where it belongs!

My pot head friends bring this up every time I give the a brew to try so I think about it every now and then. The only way I can see it working is you would have to dry hop it in secondary. That way the thc would be absorbed in the alcohol that's in the cider. The cost would be astronomical. I think you would need about a half pound to a pound for a 5 gallon batch. Just my 2 cents

No, the abv of cider will not be high enough to effectively extract the THC from marijuana. Also pot does not share the same antiseptic properties of hops, so 'drypotting' could easily lead to infection. If you really want to dose your cider right, go to your local dispensary and buy a nice sterile tincture. (or google 'green dragon' and DYI.)
