Hey All,

I was thinking about what beverages I'm going to take to thanksgiving dinner and didn’t make a decision just yet. But this got me thinking … what does everyone else drink? Usually I just drink whatever is in the fridge, but I thought “what would compliment this amazing feast?” I’m leaning towards a porter or something darker although a pumpkin beer might be good for dessert. So … does anyone else have their beer menu planned out or something you usually go with for the occasion?

I prefer a more malt forward beer at this time of year. Maybe it's the new England weather. I find hoppy beers do not pair well with the heavy eating I do on thanksgiving. I prefer them when I wake up from my early afternoon nap.

I did a pumpkin ale just for handing out on T-day as a dessert beer. I wanted it to taste like I was drinking pumpkin pie, and actually came pretty close. I used the NB Smashing Pumpkin kit, mashed with 60oz of caramelized canned pumpkin, used the spices the kit came with in the primary, then added a spice tea to the secondary to get the flavor more like I wanted it. Then I added 1/4lb of malto dextrin after it was kegged to sweeten it up a tad more. It's very tasty. I'll be brewing this again soon.

Our family holidays tend to be showcases for whatever I have in the pipline homebrew wise, as well as my Nephew's talents as a winemaker. He hasn't done any wine in the last year, sadly. And this year I haven't done much brewing with my heart issues. But I will be bringing a few bottles of the 2nd runnings beer from my 50th birthday barleywine partigyle, and my Chocolate mole porter, and whatever else I may have. But nothing "fancy."

I have done Pumkin ales in the past for the holiday. But just didn't get to do it this time around.

I hope this too spammy, but CBW has a post on Thanksgiving beer. We had a Fake Thanksgiving a week ago with family from out of town and I can say that SN's Tumbler goes great with turkey and stuffing. I also got some Saison Dupont, Oak Aged Yeti and will be bringing over some homebrewed pumpkin and brown ale on Thursday.

I'll be taking a sampler of my present stock (see signature) but the two I am really looking forward to sharing are the rum pumpkin ale and the bourbon old ale; both came out fantastic and will complement the desert course perfectly. For the actual turkey main course, I am bringing three bottles of French white wine - from the Alsace - as that is where my father's side is from. That, I guess, is the old standing tradition; TheWeeb's homebrew will be the new.

Anyway, I think that white wine goes well with the turkey, and homebrew either before or after!

from last year . . . .

Oh yeah, I'll probably debut this year's batch of Apfelwein as well. It was made between x-mas and new years, and bottled 6 months later, so it should be ready.

Bought a few bottles of Saison Dupont, North Coasts Saison and one of 3 Monts. I think farmhouse ales are very nice with thanksgiving foods, with the more malty biere de gardes being my favorite. As far as homebrews I'm bringing a porter and an imperial stout which I think will go nicely with cheesecake for desert. Also a blonde ale for BMC people in my family.

I love a big-ass barleywine ale. Or a spiced, pumpkin, or brown ale. Or an IPA. Awww man, I just realized I named every style I love.....just DRINK good beer, bottom line

Damn ... lots of good choices here! Sadly I dont have much in the stockpile of homebrews to take so currently I’m leaning towards SN Tumbler and maybe a growler of a spiced ale my local brewpub has. Anchor OSA looks good too … maybe save the OSA for later in the weekend! i def think nick says it best though as long as the beers good, I'm good! haha

Just put a brown ale on tap, but it will be a little green, being only 3.5 weeks old. The other tap has my Red Rye IPA (8%) on there so that might be too intimidating for most of the family. lol

The Bruery Autumn maple!! And whatever else I can. Not bringing wine to places anymore, a nice 750 is just at elegant and enjoyable!

Thanksgiving at our house, so no need to haul kegs around. :D

For starters:
APA (w/ Chinook & Willamette hops) 45IBU / 7%ABV
Brown Porter 30IBU / 4.5% ABV
(back-up keg of Oaked IPA 75IBU / 8%ABV)

After dinner:
Belgian Dark Strong 25IBU / 9%ABV
EvaLution RIS 100IBU / 9.5%ABV (aged w/ French Oak)
brewed last November to commemorate the birth of my Granddaughter

I will bring whatever I can rustle together out of the fridge on my way out. I'll probably be bringing some hefe for my younger brother, graff for my mom and a mix of random things for my dad to try. I may bring a bottle of agave mead.

It's awesome. I've had a bunch of different varieties (haven't made it myself yet) and have always enjoyed it.

Scottish ale, and Denny's bourbon vanilla imperial porter. Along with any of the 100's of bottle of homemade wine I have stored in my basement!

. . . oh, and I forgot to mention the two bottles of home made limocello:tank:

I put 2 22 oz. bottles of my Dead Guy clone in the fridge last week to get them ready (it's more malty and less hoppy than DG, and super yummy).

I'll also pick up some red wine too since Boyfriend doesn't like white wine.

It's just the 2 of us this year, going out to a movie in the evening so need to be able to recover from food /brew coma in reasonable amount of time :)

I'll be drinking a couple bottles of my local micro, Rivertown Pumpkin Ale. I also have some homebrewed milk stout that's tasting fantastic. I'm wondering what a blend of 3 parts pumpkin ale and 1 part milk stout will taste like... I think I'll find out. Also have a couple bottles of my first batch of apfelwine that I might bust out for the dinner.

Just picked up a 6xer of michigan beer to share, and will probably pack a 6er of my last stout. I can remember buying: Kalamzoo stout, Centennial IPA, Celis White, SA Winter White, SA Winter Lager, and something else I can't remember.

Last year was at my house but it was too soon after we moved and I had nothing ready. Ended up with a growler of the Bruery's Autumn Maple as a dessert beverage.

This year we're going to my in-laws, I'm bringing growlers of my peanutbuttercup stout and my beehive IPA, and sicne it's my father-in-law's birthday next Monday, I'm bringing him a nice bottle of 12yo highland park single malt scotch. I'm sure they'll have grappa, slivovitz, cachaca, and plenty of wine. Gotta love the eastern europeans!
