Hey guys, i am considering investing about $150 in a good Ph meter and i wanted to check how many of you have compared brun'water results with a good 0.01 resolution Ph meter.

I am trying to figure out if the investment is worth it at all. If you enter the grain bill 100% correct in brun'water, with all correct lovibond values, use 100% distilled water, will the mash Ph be exactly what you get measuring with a meter?

I guess there is no point to buy a good meter just to confirm brun'water is correct, right? Unless it is not accurate enough?

Thanks

It is absolutely worth it. Every brewer should have a good pH meter as you should never rely on any program, calculator or spreadsheet to give you anything more than an estimate as to what your mash pH will be. You will find, under Brewing Science, extensive discussion as to why this is so as well as tips on how to calibrate and use a pH meter.

Software can only get you close. It can't be perfect since we are dealing with natural products that do vary. Having a good meter to verify or assess pH is still useful.

I bought one of the cheap $12.99 meters on Amazon and learned that you get what you pay for. The Brewing Science forum also has a few good meters identified that one of which I should have bought in the first place.

The $150 PH meter will be worth is depending on how often you brew, what other equipment you already have, and what your personal goals are. Do you already have a kegging setup? Temperature control for fermentation? Grain mill? I'd get those things before an expensive PH meter, but my wants, needs and desires are probably not the same as yours.

Thanks for the reply guys.

Well i brew every weekend and i already have all te equipment you listed.

I have just purchased the MW102, i guess this will be a good investment moving forward, i have past the point where i am trying to make good beer, now my goal is to make it perfect and this is the one thing i dont have under control :mug:
