I know this is out there (and I did search 2 different ways before asking) but nothing direct.

In short I took hydr reading for 3 days on a Brown Ale @1.012 which was the expected. I took a sample for a final reading and bottled the rest. Got done with bottling (~1 hr) and put the hydr in the sample. It read 1.014. There is a 10 degree difference b/n the fermentation spot and kitchen where it was bottled. Could the increased temp of the small sample in the hydr case which would obviously change rapidly cause this big of a difference? I know the conversion is in Complete Joy but I loaned it to a friend.
 
not likely. Were they both at eye level in the same sample tube? If not, chalk it up to observation error. And .002 isn't much.
 
Damn! I'm pretty sure everything the same except the temp when measuring. Thx for the help HG.

Not enough to create over Carb in the bottle concerns? (assuming my 3 were wrong and the final was right, 3/4 cup corn sugar syrup at bottling as well.)
 
I've never done 3 readings.....as long as the FG reading is ballpark*.

*I define ballpark on a 1.0450 - 1.060 OG beer as an FG ± .003 - .004

If it's in the ballpark, I bottle. Never had a bomb yet. I also go for an extended primary- 3 week minimum unless it's going into the secondary for adjuncts or bulk aging.

When you get into bigger / heavier beers that have a lot of non-fermentables, with an FG up around 1.020 or so....then there's a certain amount of guesswork involved.
 
more than likely the warmed up beer was releasing more CO2 and making the hydro float higher. gotta spin that hydro to dislodge the bubbles.

Looks like ~10 degrees (65 to 75) is just about 0.002 so probably could be depending on how long it took you to bottle, what the temperatures actually were, and how small your sample size was for the hydrometer reading.

I don't bother with the conversion most times since I figure I cannot read the hydrometer to the kind of precision anyhow.

Also, if the reading went up then you shouldn't have an issue. It was stable at the location where you did the first three readings.
 
No offense meant as I could see it being the source, I am just getting back in and more than a little rusty, sincerely appreciate the response.
 
How much effect would that have - adding the priming sugar?

I always take my FG when I am done with bottling and can't fill the last bottle...
