My wife and I returned from the happy holidays at her folks place last night and we went out for dinner to our local brewery/restaurant (BJs). While enjoying BJs take on an Irish Red and slice of our Chicago style pizza, I told her that I'd like to sample my first home brew when we went home, to make sure nothing was amiss and to see if all this time had not been wasted.
Round Pond Swan Pale Ale has been in the bottle since 16 Dec. Its a simple Coopers kit, but I did modify their recipe by adding corn sugar instead of the called for white sugar; therefore I am allowed to change the name
At any rate, we chilled 2 bottles while we unpacked our stuff and settled in from being away for 6 days: check the fish tank, (dead female guppy), checked the pool, (added lots of chemicals), put clothes in the wash, checked mail, etc., etc., lots of stuff to do until the beer is chilled.
Finally we popped the caps and poured the beer. Lo and behold there was carbonation! Critical first test passed! It frothed a head just enough to make you think it was beer too. Nice color, nice hoppy scent. Finally, the taste test. DELICIOUS! One more week really isnt quite necessary, but I have a couple of friends coming over to sample the wares Saturday after next.
Andrea was impressed! Not that it matters, but now I can get her blessing to purchase the mini-freezer and other brewing necessities! :rockin:
