I am presently using a 6.5 gallon better bottle for primary and a 5 gallon glass carboy for secondary (used once). I can't justify the cost of a SS conical, but could justify the cost of the 6.5 gallon mini brew fermenter. I understand its harder to clean and harder to move than a better bottle. Is there anyone out there who has one and can tell me why they would or would not get one again?

I have seen the brew bucket as well, but it would seem the mini brew has more functionality for a lower cost. Once again, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have read a hundred posts on the matter, yet still find myself being drawn to a plastic conical.

I'm pretty interested in a conical too, but if I spring for a conical I'm scaling up, and getting this:

http://www.spraysmarter.com/ace-roto-mold-white-inductor-tank-15-gallon.html

Which ships for under like $80. And I'll probably build my own damn stand rather than double that cost for a metal one, and put it in a fridge.

Now, if I were to argue you out of a conical altogether, I'd get you to try buckets instead of fooling around with a 2" better bottle neck, and see how you like the difference. Because the only thing stopping me from getting a conical (aside from general cheapskatedness) is the fact that my current setup with food safe buckets in rubbermaid tub water baths is easy to cool, cheap all around, and works wonderfully, and I can reclaim yeast in a pinch. It is notoriously unsexy, though.

I don't want to have to dedicate a whole fridge to one 5-gallon batch of beer. If you do that already, and you don't like buckets, it sounds like the plastic conical may be for you.
