CidahMastah said:Yup - St Bernardus 12 I believe it was interesting, but I gathered that it was a bit of an acquired taste. Dark fruity flavoring. I mean it isn't like most folks like scotch when they drink it the first time
I found myself appreciating the unique flavors, just not sure if they all belonged in the same mix.
If I don't acquire the taste for them after my 5 gallon share of westy 12, then I never will![]()

to be honest, the haus ale was much better almost "fresh" or young, i pulled it a week after i kegged it and it was so much better tasting that the later tastings. early on the hop aroma and flavor really "popped" as the weeks progressed it became more dull for me.
that one looks good
looks easy to reproduce from the list they have there on the ingredients if you cant find a clone.
i as looking at that i was thinking c40 would work for that... as well
and using nugget for bittering and liberty as the aroma.. haha.. wow
great minds think alike.. haha
what is the srm that you have right now?
the BW was 4.5 so if you go to 7 i think you would be good, i wouldnt go any darker than that tho
i think c40 or even c20 would be perfect for that style.. i think even 60 your starting to bring on other flavors that you would not want, caramel and what not into it.
when i think of hefe's i dont think of caramel or any of those, clean and crisp wheat taste.
Cidah,
That. Black topped was my imperial vanilla choclate porter. It was 8.75% and id be happy to get the recipe to you. It is good, just a twinge of alcohol taste last time i tried it. I got some aging in a closet now. The light beer was a brewers best kit. Had to try it. Its ok, very similar tk a becks lite or heiniken light. My gf loves it as itz easy to drink, she is more happy with the red ale and stoked about bm blue moon clone. Thanks for the reviews!
