Over the past 4 years since I've been with my wife I have completely turned her around. She is now officially a "beer snob".

When we go out she gets excited to try new beers, I love it!

This was all realized this year when she went out to her company golf tournament where beer was provided. She brought her own cooler of a Saranac 12 pack mixer. I'm not promoting Saranac here, but this was her response when I asked isn't beer provided...

"Yeah, but it will most likely be bud light or coors."

So sexy. haha.

Anyone else have any luck with the ladies digging brews because of your hobby?

P.S. I'm not sure I totally enjoy the "swmbo" acronym yet.

Girlfriend is like me - she'll drink just about anything. She does enjoy sour beers a lot, and is excited when I come back from the store with them.

Side note - I won't use SWMBO either.

haha well we all "yes dear" at some point, no getting around that one.

Then why use it? I don't think I have every referred to my wife as anything except "my wife" on here, and I don't plan on starting.

As to your original question, I have not had any luck with my wife, but I will keep trying. She did down a couple of Sierra Nevada Pales, and a Hoegaarden, on our recent vacation to Arizona, while sitting out by the pool with her sister, so who knows. Now my sisters in law, that is another story, I have about half a dozen of those that all appreciate good beer.

Beer... its not just for people with testicles anymore.

One of the things I liked about my wife when I met her is that she enjoyed GOOD beers. I've become a snob since she gave me the brew kit last year and get more excited than she does. But she does enjoy brewerey tours and tasting new beers.

My (SWMBO) wife hates beer, and every once in awhile questions my consumption. I don't complain much seeing as how she grew up with an alcoholic, abusive mother who lived off cheap beer, the fact that she even tolerates beer or brewing and 90% of the time doesn't give me guff, I can live with it.

Wife hates beer. Will take a Corona and half and half it with Sprite. :cross:

Also, she has no objection at all to "SWMBO" but calling her "dear" will result in an immediate beating. :p

I don't know about converting into a snob, but I've "opened the eyes" of both my brother and bro-in-law. They can't shut up about Three Floyd's Gumballhead and the quality and selection in their fridges has steadily gone up.

SWMBO on the other hand is still a "Bud Light with lime" girl and anything I suggest she try a sip of results in a contortion of facial muscles followed by "eegh". There have only been a few that she admitted she liked such as Jan de Lichte and Ephemere. Guess I need to try to brew a Belgian wit and go from there...

No conversion needed. On the day I met my wife, we went out to lunch. She ordered SNPA for the meal, a Guinness afterward. :ban:

Now if that's not marriage material ...

Wife currently hates the beers I drink, but will sip some every once in awile to see what i'm enjoying then turn up her nose.. and is almost totally apposed to me starting into homebrewing (at least until i can clean out the garage).. but I'm slowly making a dent.. got her to like Wyders recently and am trying to find a good step towards some good beers. All you guys with wifes/girls who enjoy good brews should feel happy and tell them how much you love them.. lol

Aww, poor Frenchie. :p I'm part German, part Irish, and the rest Redneck, so my tolerance is fairly ample.

My lovely SWMBO (and I'm usin' the term cuz' it fits the rules in this house) never used to be a beer snob, in fact she hated any and all beer, and loved wine and champagne.

Hobgoblin did the trick. 5 gallons of Orfy's Hobgoblin II in a keg, and she was hooked. Now I've got her training on all different kinds of porters... she's becoming an expert on them b/c it's her favorite style. I also "made" her help me taste-test the 888 RISes, and she enjoyed that.

Hoppy beers, not so much, I am still working on her to drink more IPAs. (For .. um .. all the benefits of hops. ;)) But she really likes my British Mild. And she likes Brown Ale now too, as well as Scottish Ale.

But if we go out to a bar.... she goes back to pint after pint of Blue Moon with an orange slice in it. :p

My fiance loves brewing with me and, while she doesn't go out of her way to drink the beers I like, she enjoys them and I have converted her to buying almost exclusively micro and craft brews. The first time she brought a sixer of Coors into my apartment, I let her know very politely how I felt and it hasn't happened since. I love that woman.

My SWMBO didn't like beer at all until I made Ed's Haus Pale Ale and then she was caught hook line and sinker. She still doesn't like hop bombs but she enjoys many styles and will try just about anything.

SWMBO's favorite beer is Two-Hearted Ale. We went to Europe on our honeymoon and she insisted on spending a few days in Belgium specifically for the beer. She drank Duvel on tap like it was water.

Any questions?

My wife and I met through a homebrew club we were both members of. In the 8 years we have been together, she has increased in her brewing knowledge each year. This year she has brewed 6 beers and a mead. She just took a third place in the Queen of Beers competition with a Wit.

No SO, but I about two years ago I took a Mild to a OBC meeting. One of the women attending with her BF "didn't like craft beer". I talked her into trying the Mild. She drank two pints & her BF took the recipe home.

Did you have to carry her over the threshold? Drinking Duvel like that I bet she couldn't walk! ;)

Mine's a complete convert also. When we started dating she drank Miller Lite and Killians. Now she's a beer snob too. She love hoppy beers, dark beers, Belgian beers - anything with flavor.

We split a bottle of Budweiser American Ale the other night just to try it. She took a sip and said "It tastes like Bud with a little bit of flavor and some hops." :D

I had a small breakthrough last night. SWMBO has gradually been trying my beers, but she doesnt like most of them, particularly the darker ones. For the most part, the only beer she drinks is Bud Select. However, last night I was sipping on my American Wheat that is pretty heavily hopped with Summit and Cascades and she took a sip and not only liked it, but asked if I would get her a glass! :mug:
