Dang the wind is crazy tonight. Blowing my flame all over the place.

I barely have a boil, and ive been out here since 1:30.

kinda getting tired.. but only have 20min left.

Q: A boil is a boil, right?? It doesn't have to be raging?

To save propane, I define "boil" as staying between 209-211 F. Sometimes that equals raging boil, sometimes that equals simmer. I try to at least keep noticable surface movement, even if it's just swirling foam on top.

Others?

PS, sounds like it's time to DIY a flame shield.. Just metal flashing and rivets or screws, others have used buckets or basins too :D

just wait till you freeze your propane tank!!

i ended up using my spent grains in a trash bag under the tank to keep it from freezing up

Check out Brad's windshield -- that should do the trick:

I think any type of wind break will do. EX: car, garage, Loyal dog or wife, trash can, anything!!! Just remember it can get drunk out pretty early during a brew so be prepared!!!!
