Just finished our first extract kit. Everything seemed to go just fine, good hot break in the boil, dropped the temp down to 70 quickly and rehydrated and pitched the yeast.

When we got ready to put it in the fermentation chamber, I noticed all manner of stuff suspended in the wort. We strained it in a fine mesh going into the carboy to get the hops oout and the only other things in it were the sysrup, Dry extract and the hops.

Is this normal or have we messed this one up?

It's called cold break, it's the same as hot, on comes out when you chill it. You don't need to go out of your way to strain it, or even stress out about it. next time just dump it in. It will settle with the trub.
