Today I brewed my pumpkin amber and had a horribly stuck mash. I've brewed this beer before, and never had anything like this happen. Literally no liquid would come out of the MLT spigot. I ended up having to scoop out grain/wort and put it in a collander, and do mini-sparges with each scoop. Should I expect any off-flavors from having done this?

I used a whole lb of rice hulls. Like I said, brewed this beer last year with the same amount of pumpkin and had no issues. The braided hose in the MLT was so compressed, I'm going to have to replace it. I think I'll probably go for one of those mesh tubes that are little more stiff.

Man that sux...

Have you considered building a drain manifold using pipe yet? I would encourage you to look into it. I used to use a cooler with just a braided hose for the drain and after upgrading to the manifold design I will never go back!

Use the plastic water pipe instead of copper because it is less expensive, check out my last mash tun here: Yet another Xtreme mash tun build...

I've had one stuck sparge. A brisk stir of the mash with a mash paddle cleared it right up. You'll have to vorlauf again, but it should work fine.

Vorlauf wasn't even possible. Literally no liquid would come out. Stirring kind of helped, but there was really only a dribble that would come out.

Next time maybe try adding a gallon of the hot (170-180F) sparge water, mix, then try to vorlauf again.

I had a stuck sparge. Couldn't get any liquid out at all. Didn't even start. Stirring didn't help.
I blew into the tube. Bubbles. Let sit. Vorlauf. All good.

Same solution here. Blew into the tube. Started the vorlauf over again

I didn't think to blow into the valve. Next time this happens, I'll try that. Though hopefully there isn't a next time! What a pain that was.
