I brewed a Canadian Ale from a Brewer's Best extract kit......

Everything went together like clockwork, OG was 1.045. Sat in primary for one week, then put into a secondary at 1.018. One week later, approx 1.015 (closer to 1.016). Let it sit another week, I'm now at 1.014.

The kit suggests an FG of 1.010 to 1.012. The taste test was pretty good, but I feel it still may be a little sweet.
If i let it go one more week or two, can i expect it to drop another point or two, or am i stuck here? I'm 21 days into the project. Also, will one or two more points effect the "sweetness" that much or is that just due to the style of beer?
Thanks for any help!

If you are worried that it is not done take a gravity reading for 3 days in a row, if it doesn't change it is safe to bottle. Don't forget also that if you are using a glass hydrometer temperature will effect the reading and adjustments need to be made.

If the readings are consistent over three days and it holds steady it should be fine, 1.014 is not a bad finish.

You should not have put the beer into secondary at 1.018 if you were aiming for 1.012. In future, wait until the beer is finished out before you put it in secondary. Moving the beer off the bulk of the yeast to put it into secondary will seriously slow the fermentation.

Tru.dat. Leave until nearly fermented out or don't rack at all. I'd bottle it now, I'm sure it is at it's end. Maybe you just "mashed" whatever grains you had too hot, if any at all.

I have found that while 1.012 is always the goal if you are using extract 1.014-18 is the norm because extract is so inefficient. I would be happy with 1.014.

Check your hydrometer too. It is possible that it reads a few points off. Find 60F tap water and hope for 1.000.

works for me! I did read a TON of threads suggesting leaving it in the primary the whole time, but that was after i racked it to the secondary. Next time it stays in. Thanks again for the replys!
