I was brewing today as well as transferring my red to a secondary. Needless to say after long brewing/drinking I messed up and pitched my dry ale yeast into the irish red carboy. I took a reading on my red and the gravity was at 1.017. So my question is what exactly is this going to do to my irish red? Sorry if been covered but never had heard or experienced anything like this.

Same yeast that you originally pitched perhaps?
If so, no biggie, secondary as usual and bottle as usual.

The fact that the gravity is so low already will prevent much activity and the new yeast will prolly just go dormant immediately

That's my take

Not the same. I used wlp 004 for the red and us-04 for the second so hopefully will be ok based off what you said. As far as not drinking so much all I can say is that barley wine is good and... Strong.
