Hey all-

I made an amber on wed. and there was a serious amount of activity for the first 36 hrs, but now there is almost none. The temp is about 66 F. About an hour after I put the wort into the carboy, I noticed there was about a half inch layer of "brownish" or "tanish" sediment in the bottom. I figured it had something to do with the yeast, but now approaching the 48 hr mark, I am seeing a the real layer of yeast, a white color, form on top of the brown. Any idea what the brownish sediment is?

I used 6.6lbs of amber extract, 2oz of Cascade, and 2 rehydrated dry yeasts packets.

Thanks-
