I brewed a Munton Cerveza kit saturday. I pitched the yeast at 68. 24 hrs later i was seeing activity in the air lock, a bubble every 12 sec. After I got home from the Super Bowl the activity has stopped. Then monday at @ 12-1 pm it was bubbling every second, this went on all afternoon. it stopped later that day and there has been no activity since. I primary in a bucket so i cant really see whats happening inside but that was unlike any fermintation i have ever seen. i'm wondering if anyone has ever seen that kind of thing? The thermometer on the bucket has never gotten above 68 .

Most likely what's happening is that at first the pressure inside the fermentation bucket was such that the path of least resistance was through the airlock but as pressure and fermentation increased it couldn't escape fast enough through the airlock so it has found another way out.

I wouldn't be concerned about it. Airlock activity is not a good indicator of fermentation. If you really worried you can take the lid off and take a look. Or what I have done in the past is take the airlock out of the lid and shine a flashlight into the bucket and look through the hole to see if you can see krausen.

thanks Rockn, I really couldnt see to much trying to look through the airlock hole. I"ll just wait the 3 weeks and see whats up then. thats the way Ive always done it. i think i could see a krausen ring around the bucket so it 's probably fine.
