My first brew was today and wanted to know if I did this right.....when pouring into fermentar out of pot I poured through a strainer and left all the junk in pot out of my brew....was that correct? The brew was a truebrew octoberfest ale.:mug:

There is debate whether to strain or not to strain. Personally, I strain the hops and sediment out of the wort. If you do not strain, it will just end up in the bottom of the fermenter as trub, thus taking away final volume of your beer.

Thanks....glad it was ok. Really hoping it turns out good. Has anyone made the octoberfest ale?

I use a fine mesh strainer to get the gunk out, but also helps aerate the wort as well. Less trub equals more clear beer come bottling time.
