I got a question regarding when or if I should strain my wort. When I am done with the cold break and I am ready to pour it into the fermentor, is it smart to strain it? Will it lead to a clearer beer and aerate it at the same time? Or would it be smart to keep the sediment in fermentor and just leave it alone? Thanks!

EDIT: Extract brewing

I BIAB and strain all my beer going into the fermenter. Not only does it remove lots of particles, it slightly aerates the wort which is great for a quicker fermentation.
I've done this for years, never having any problems with it. Like all things brewing, clean and sterilise the strainer and anything else that touches the wort after boiling.

Starting with my 2nd batch, way back when, I've strained through a kitchen strainer to catch the hop material , the hot break, the cold break and the irish moss from the BK. Necessary? No. Plenty of brewers don't and they ultimately get nice clear beer. It all settles out and compacts in the trub. So why do I do it? Habit, and "It works for me". So, my advice is to do what works for you. :mug:

Will do, thanks for the advice! Just wanted to make sure I am not doing something wrong that I will regret later! :tank:

I use the 10 1/4" dual layer fine mesh strainer available from Midwest & NB. It aerates nicely & gets the hop gunk, trub & cold break strained out.

I am an all grain brewer and have a screen in my BK, as well as using a hop spider. I also use the bottle neck plastic fermentators vessels. I seem to catch a fair amount of hot and cold break as well as stray hops. I am always open to learn, Is there more filtering I should do. I do hate to waste any beer.
