Hi all,

I have recently up-sized my brewing batches to 10 gallon and am considering even larger. I have always purchased water for the batches, but with the larger sizes it is getting expensive so I am looking at just using tap water with a water filter.

If I do this, the filter will be idled except for brewing days and I am questioning how to store the filers.

Should the canisters be emptied and the filters dried or do they need to maintained being saturated and in water once they are first used.

How does everyone do this now?

Thank you

I brew with a mix of RO and carbon/charcoal filtered well water. The RO stays in use all the time but the charcoal filter is only used for brewing every 3-4 weeks. After each use I take the filter element out of the canister, let it drip dry a bit, zip it in a baggie and toss it in the freezer with my hops. So far that has worked well with no off odors and no fuzzy growths.
