I dont have anything else to weight down my hop bag, can i use a 2" stir bar or will it leave any flavors?

U should be good with the stir bar or you have glass marbles? That's what I use...
Or
Stainless steel bolts or nuts...just sanitize everything and your good..

Should be fine as far as off flavors go but in my experience you will need a lot more weight to keep the hop bag submerged. Stainless steel ball bearings are great if you can get your hands on them without spending lots of cash.

I don't think that would be enough weight depending on how much you are dry hopping with. Glass marbles are a better bet if you can get a hold of them.

i dont have any marbles or bearing but i can grab stainless nuts and bolts from work tomarrow... what is better? 316 or 416

Eh...probably doesn't matter for this application. If you have to pay for them whatever is cheaper. Glad you know the difference though :rockin:

oh ya,,, i work for the railroad doing maintenance on tankcars... some haul some bad stuff and have to go for the 416, man 1'' bolts and b8 studs are expensive. i can grab a couple 1/2 inch heavy hex nuts for free, i think they should weigh it down pretty good

I use SS nuts. Couldn't find marbles ANYWHERE, and not for lack of trying. Maybe Toys r Us has them, but not Walmart/Target/K-mart/Dollar Tree. Kids just don't play with marbles anymore I guess.

LOL yeah I would say so!!! I just had to go to the hardware store to BUY several large SS bolts for weight.

fish store or a home nick nack store will have them

You can also get marbles by the pound at Hobby Lobby if you have one around. Maybe Michaels. Most craft stores have them, except instead of toys now they're decorations.
