I did a watermelon beer with the lorann oils watermelon extract. Just 1 dram in 5 gallons.

First after the keg was kicked I just hooked up the line to the replacement centennial blonde. The line was cleaned before the watermelon beer so I thought it would be fine.

Then I had a watermelon/blonde brew. Though not as strong the watermelon was there.

Next I ran oxiclean through the line and let it soak for a few days. Still there. Then disassembled my tap and soaked it.

Still there but not as strong.

I figured out if I have a glass of about 4 ounces I taste it then fill the glass and it's not there. Then if I wait 1/2 hour or so the flavor is back.

Should I just buy a new beer line and dedicate this one to watermelon beer?

Not sure what to do here. Although it's a pleasant watermelon taste I've had enough and want regular brew.

Yep, that's what can happen. Don't even think about putting root beer on tap without a dedicated line!!!!!!!

I'd replace the line, and keep it for your next watermelon beer. It's never going to come out.

Got it. I'm also wondering now if I should get another fitting for the pin lock? Maybe the taste/smell is in there also? Maybe even the seals in the perlick?

Kind of a bummer!

Yoop, Is that because he used extract and not real fruit or is it due to pvc beer lines? I ask because I plan to use watermelon in the future for a jalapeno wheat beer, but will be using real watermelon. I use the Ultra Barrier Silver PVC free beer line and since kegging over a year now I've never once had flavor left over from previous batches in the lines. Hope to keep it that way! :)

Watermelon Jalapeno Wheat Beer. The thought of that terrifies me. I hope you enjoy it. :fro:

I just ordered a new 'out' fitting and new o-rings for the tap. Already had a 10ft line laying around.

That beer was such a hit with everyone that drank it, it deserves it's own line!

The inspiration is from margaritas, but I plan to make the spiciness light so you can taste it but still have a few pints.

I suspect it's just that the lines absorb the flavor. You can use real fruit, and also get a flavor that sticks around. Root beer is the worst I've experienced but I think it happened with a lighter beer that had some lemon or something a number of years ago.
