I need to buy a larger brewpot and have my eyes set on a stainless steel pot with an aluminum base. My concern is when I move it from the stove to
the ice bath, the swift temperature change will damage the pot, particularly the aluminum base.

Does anyone here have a similar pot and also uses ice baths to cool their wort?

Unless the pot is total crap it will be fine. The Aluminum will really help draw the heat out of the wort. Maybe not as much as an immersion chiller would, but much better than SS alone.

The difference in the new cooking pots I got my wife for Christmas was dramatic. Although I think hers were copper plated on the bottom. Thick and heavy!
