STC 1000 unit broken?

Has anyone known these units to be defective? I can not get mine to act as anything more then a thermometer because it will not switch either the heating or cooling circuits on no matter how I wire it. I am using the wiring diagram from these forums using two wire nuts with:

hot to #1,#5,#7
Neutral to #2, neutral outlet
#6 to hot heater outlet
#8 to hot cooling outlet

Is this configuration incorrect?
Should I hear the opening/closing of circits in the stc-1000?
Should I just order a new one?

I've been pulling my hair out tring to get it to work.

Are you waiting the 5 minute delay when you first plug it in before the heating/cooling circuit goes active?

Yes I just left it plugged in for over ten minutes and no power.

Besides the compressor delay on the cooling circuit I've not heard of a delay nor seen one in the many YouTube videos I've gone through trying to troubleshoot.

And you have it wired like this?

If so make sure the tab between the heating and cooling screws on the outlet are broken. But that wouldn't cause issues you're having. Both circuits would be on both at the same time. If wired properly I'd say your unit is defective.

Thanks. Was having the same issue of it not kicking on the fridge. Didn't know that it had to be wired up like this. Quick trip to the store and I got it going.

And Qcent. The LED light next to cooling should be steady when it supplying power to the cooling side and the same for the heat side. If the Cooling LED is flashing, that is the compressor delay. You should be hearing a clicking noise when it is supplying power to either the cooling/heat.

I'm surprised more of these units aren't having problems for the low price (and non-UL listing) they get. Hope mine are fine, I haven't wired them up yet.

Well I ordered another unit today. Ill have to wait a month for shipping from Hong Kong. I checked my unit over and noticed I had the 220VAC model. Think my wiring is 110. Maybe that is problem? I am by no means an electrician and have really only worked with small DC circits before.

I have waited for the lights to go solid but have never heard the click of the circuit switching. Thanks for confirming this should happen. Maybe the wrong voltage for the unit won't flip switch?? I can only hope my new one will work when it gets here

Yes, that may be the problem.

Who are you ordering from? It took me less than a week to get each of the two units I've bought in the last year.

I just went on eBay. Wasn't to picky. They were all about $20USD with shipping. I think the seller was mixedtea. I'm prepared to wait the longest estimated delivery time.

That IS the problem. Let's hope the new one isn't a 220VAC version or you will have the same problem. A 220VAC unit will power up and appear to function, on 110VAC, but will not consistently switch the hot and cold relays.

The new unit came in last night 110vac. Had it working in 10 seconds. Anyone need a 220v model?
