i just bought a stc 1000 and had assumed that the probe would be long enough....its about a yard long!!! much too short.

1-could i just extend it with some wires??? not much of a tech person with this stuff. also it has a metal casing on the end of the probe, all the other ones that i have seen are plastic. should that worry me?

2-i've researched and understand how to wire it all up, the only thing that i can't seem to figure out is in which order to put the power cords in. there are two slots to put + and - in, but which one goes where?

hahahah sorry for the ridiculous questions.

How can you say "i've researched and understand how to wire it all up" and then ask questions that demonstrate that you obviously don't know how to wire it? There are no + or - leads on an STC-1000. The power connections are AC, so they also have no + or - (on average.) Look at some of the other STC-1000 threads on this site for information on how to wire. There are also lots of how to videos on Youtube. Here's a good place to start: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=433985&highlight=stc-1000. There's a video in there too.

You can extend the leads of the temp probe, just use wire slightly larger than the current wire of the probes so that you don't add a lot of extra resistance to the probe. The temp sensor itself is a temperature variable resistor with a nominal value of 10K ohms, so a few tenth's of ohms additional from longer wires won't affect it much. The temp probe is not polarized (no + or -), so you can hook the leads up either way.

Brew on :mug:

hahaha thanks for the info!! I just put my controller together successfully and everything works great!

my question was about powering the actual controller, not whether or not the live or neutral could be "run through" the controller switch system. I guess I am just over complicating it ;) but the good news is is that it wasn't hard at all and it works !

thanks for the answers :)
