As I stated in my introduction, I am coming back to brewing after a layoff of a few years. So, while I had fair success before, this time I want to step my game up and brew REALLY GOOD beer, every time.

After reading (a lot) on here it seems that one of the primary keys to success is proper fermentation temperature, something that I don't think I addressed properly when I brewed previously. I'm planning to get it right this time by building a fermentation chamber to get the exact temperature I need for each batch.

I have on hand a chest freezer that we only use during the winter to store venison, the rest of the year it sits unplugged and unused. My idea is to use it with an STC-1000 temperature control unit as a fermentation chamber for 6.5 gallon plastic fermentation buckets.

I have read a few threads on doing just that, but I have one simple, basic question.

Am I correct that once I have the STC-1000 wired properly that all I do is plug my freezer (for cooling) into the cooling recepticle on the outlet and my heat source (heat lamp?) into the warming recepticle?

I understand there will be some adjustment of the settings needed and possibly (probably?) some physical alteration of my freezer, but do I have this basically correct?

Thanks

SC

That's it. You'll have to get the probe in the freezer, can be as simple as closing the lid on top. I have three STC's running two ferm chambers and a keezer right now, and I could unplug them all and have two upright refrigerators and a weird chest freezer with faucets coming out. I'm assuming you want to keep the freezer for deer season.

Thanks everyone.

That's what I thought, just wanted to verify before I pulled the trigger on the project.

Now onto eBay for the STC-1000.

Yes fishnwhistle, I do need the ability to use the freezer for venison in the winter, we eat a lot of it.

Pelican, thanks for the links!!

Don't waste your time on ebay, just goto amazon to order the STC-1000. They are like 16 bucks and free shipping if you have a prime account.

No problem man. I bought mine from amazon as well.
