Hi all,

My buddy and I have just started to get into brewing. We want to get started but do not know how much to get and buy at this point. We don't want to drop a ridiculous amount of money, but want to be able to have a good enough start to where we can brew about 2-3 batches a time. Any suggestions as to what we should get and how much a start-up cost would be would be great. Thanks a lot.

Also, what would you all recommend as a beginner brew? We were thinking just a basic lager or an amber lager?

Thanks again.

Lagers are definitely not beginner brews. They require a dedicated refrigerator for controlling temps down low.
You'll want to start off with Ales for beginner. Are you wanting to Keep it simple with extract to go All Grain. If Extract, Brewers Best makes good kits. Extract requires and 5G boil pot, and just some bucket fermenters. A Immersion Chiller is recommended but not needed. Look around the equipment section ad the beginners sections. These questions have all been answered dozens of times.

+1; I'd recommend a simple nut brown ale or irish red type extract kit. Simple, gets your feet wet, and typically good results. Kettle (recommend two 5 gallon kettles and two brews at once if you want to do 10 gallons on stove top. If you get a cheap turkey fryer, you should be good to go). Spoon, auto siphon, thermometer is handy (but not necessary), fermentation bucket, bottling bucket, bottles/caps (bigger bottles mean less work), capper (unless swing style tops), starsan or some other sanitizer... Think that's a good start. As stated, check out the search function, and/or scroll down to see related threads. Good luck!
