I was excited to make my first starter yesterday and I made some mistakes. 150 gr of dme to a ltr of water (I was going to do 1.5 ltr). When I was done and put to the flask I didn't bother looking at the volume and had pitched to 800 ml. The yeast is WLP001. My question is should I still use it and is there something i can do to help the yeast at this point. I will brew Sunday afternoon.

Depends on a few things. How big is your beer? Volume and gravity. What is your time frame? Trying to do a quick turnaround or let it sit awhile? If its a mid gravity beer @ 5 gallons Id use it.

I think this is a major screw up and you should throw out that starter and delay brewing for 6 weeks of mourning. :D

Nah, this isn't anything to worry much over. You aren't brewing for Miller, you are brewing for you. You likely won't be able to tell the difference in the beer whether you had optimal pitch or not. RDWHAHB.

Thank you for the reply. My OG will be 1.064. 5.5 gal amber ale. 2 weeks primary than to the keg for 2 or 3 weeks.
