I made a 2L starter of Wyeast 1272 last Tuesday, planning to brew today (Saturday). Normally I cold crash 24 hours before decanting and pitching, last nightaround 10pm I looked up and noticed I had yet to throw the starter in the fridge. Should 18 hrs be enough time for these yeast to drop, or should I wait another day?
 
What style of beer is it?
You could 1) pitch the whole thing 2) decant what is clear off the starter (large turkey baster maybe) and pitch the rest or 3) if you don't want any starter wort in there let it sit until Sunday, decant, warm and pitch.
I am jealous you are brewing today.
 
Its a pretty basic pale ale. I got some Tahoma hops that I have been meaning to try out.

Does some of the starter look clear?
Maybe decant that portion and pitch the rest. I don't know how much more it would settle in six more hours of cold crash anyway.

Nah, its still pretty hazy all around. I am leaning towards waiting the extra day. Wouldn't want to dump off some perfectly good yeast...
 
I've had pretty good luck waiting to pitch. I frequently have to chill over night in my ferm chamber since ground water here is like 80 in the summer.

I would personally still brew and just pitch tomorrow after its all crashed out.
 
Put it in a cooler with ice packed around it (and enough water to get full contact). Should be clear enough to decant in 18 hrs.
 
WY1272 is a notorious slow flocculator.

It takes 2-3 days in the fridge to get a reasonably clear starter beer on top. After 18 hours, enough yeast should have settled to pitch, though. Don't toss the starter beer with all that good yeast in it. Decant it into another vessel and keep in fridge. It will settle out. Now those maybe the even lesser flocculent population, not sure what determines the drop rate. Then use for a starter for your next brew.
