Some of my hardware that I thought was stainless was actually plated brass. Well, I found out the hard way that the MFL threads on ball locks are plated, as are the FFL swivel nuts. The barb is SS, the nut isn't.

For every batch I make 5 gallons of StarSan and pour it into a vat. From this vat I draw sanitizer for my spray bottle, kegs, etc. I leave things like racking canes and transfer lines in the vat. I'm hoping the metallic taste I kept getting was just amino acid yeast fuel and not actual metal that had dissolved in the vat. I'd hate to find out that the "sucking on a nickle" flavor was actually nickle.

I got lazy, and ruined a couple of ball locks and some fittings.
