I'm building a custom fermentation controller using particle photon to replace my FTSS. I want to reuse the power supply and heater/pump without cutting wires.

Any chance anyone knows what size barrel jacks they are??

Seem like they're custom to me -- definitely curious to hear others feedback though.

I love the SsBrewtech heater design, but being tied to their overpriced controller is a bummer

I've recently completed building a new fermentation control system to replace my two FTSS units. After several bad units, I gave up on SS. While SS produces great stainless (I have 2 half barrel conicals) and have been great to work with regarding replacements, the controller units have a major design flaw - the power jacks. Mine continued to short due to the poor connection at the jack. SS recommended jimmying the jack to make for a tighter connection which unfortunately didn't work.

The glycol pumps and heating pads work great and I continue to use them with the new control panel. The new panel utilizes brucontrol and an arduino.

Best.

Thanks! I heard back from ss brewtech and they are standard jacks. I'll share my plan for a custom controller. I know there are other projects out there but really want to build my own controller and write the algorithm. I'm going to use particle photon as the core controller. The brewtech power supply will power the particle via a buck converter and the heater and pump will be switched using mosfet. DS18B20 sensors will capture ambient, fermenter and chill water/glycol temp. There will be an oled display panel and of course all monitored and controlled through the cloud. If the prototype works out I'll put together a kit for others.

Awesome! Can't wait to hear more!
