Squid Flavored Ice Cream

I like my desserts to be free of anything that used to walk, swim or fly.

Conversely, I prefer my meals to be made up of, in part at least, something that used to walk, swim or fly.

You didn't mention crawl or slither...how do you feel about them? :D
 
Why not try an Oyster Stout from Marstons? Recommended with seafood. Squid ice cream? Starter AND Dessert. Forget main course - more room for beer :D
 
or avocado milkshakes. Not quite as out there as the squid Ink ice cream, but two ingredients you wouldn't normally consider making ice cream with. They serve them at some of the asian restaurants and they are all pretty good. The avocado milkshake is freakin' great!

I saw that squid ink ice cream on Iron chef also. and yeah, they were raving about it!
 
Not that I want to bring poltics into it but after someone sent me links to one of the chicken farms that feeds KFC's constnat need for more chickens and saw the truly awful way those animals are handled, I'll never eat in that place again.

It's not really terribly different from any other large scale commercial livestock farm. If you look around and find out where your beef, pork, and non-KFC chicken comes from, you will be equally disturbed.

I suggest not looking at this kinf of things anymore, lest you'll become a vegetarian.

I've tried that one, very nice ale. Rich, dark and strong (something my wife keeps harping on about!?) :confused:

I consider those alternate forms of walking for the less developed.

I've been known to eat the occasional snail. : )

Many years ago I used to wander thru the cane fields in Okinawa, where at lunch time you could watch the Okinawans pull fist size snails out of the honey ponds, and crack them open and eat them. :eek: Kind of ruined the whole escargot thing for me. :(

You SHOULD look at the way any livestock you eat is treated - The phrase 'you are what you eat' is so true - the large scale commercial outfits are an outrage! Eat meat by all means but understand the whole proccess properly and look to buy your meat from local smaller producers with a real understanding of QUALITY product (and that usually means better welfare for the animals too!) not JUST profit.

Sadly, those kinds of places are rare to non-existent in most areas over here. :(

I'm not a veggie by any stretch of the imagination, but I eat a good proportion of vegetables to meat and generally try to buy the hormone free stuff. I'm not sure if it really tastes better or just makes me feel better mentally, but I like it. OTOH, I'm not married to it and if ribeyes are on sale, well...

Also, the Colonel's crispy strips rock, but I wouldn't drive past a Bojangles for them.

I try to buy all of my meat from Whole Foods, who's meat comes from animals that are treated humanely and more cleanly than the bigger companies do. (Which is why I qualified my earlier statement about livestock fames with the terms "large scale commercial".)

The meat is much healthier, but also much more expensive. Most people just buy whatever is at the local outlet of a large grocery chain.... that THAT stuff comes from places very much like the KFC chicken farms.

That was my point; KFC chicken farms are the same as Big Ass Grocery Company's chicken farms.

I like meat, nothing beats a good fillet steak, cooked medium rare, mmmm. But I am getting increasingly concerned about how animals are farmed, especially for the supermarkets. Plus the farmers are totally ripped off by these greedy commercial giants. And look what happens as a result of fast / cheap / mass farming for these greedy commercial giants...BSE...

I'm trying to convince my missus to buy veggies from the small greengrocer, meat from the small local butcher etc. It's hard work though cos time is so precious nowadays with our fast paced lifestyles...sigh..
 
My local brewpub, Golden Valley Brewing, has really fine food as well. The owners have their own ranch and most of the beef comes from there. The cattle eat grass, hops and spent grain. They sell a little of the meat to local butchers, but they aren't under any pressure to cut corners.

Add some yeast and you've got brew cows.....

I suppose that's another way of making a steak and ale pie, without adding the ale? ;)

My local pub does a fantastic home made steak and ale, and they have a choice of four guest ales every week...mmmmm, think I know where I'm going for sunday lunch!
