Joined for the brewing knowledge encyclopedia on here. Will be retiring soon and looking for a hobby which I can enjoy doing and consuming. Have been looking at biab recirculation systems inspired by Bobby from NJ. Watching FB marketplace for main components of a system which I will DIY with the remaining components from brewhardware. Reading and learning for now. Thank you for the content.

Which components are you looking to DIY; the electrical side or the rest of it? Honestly, you'd be hard pressed to build even the same base model (https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/biabpackagepremium.htm) for any less than @Bobby_M sells his excellent units for. The only real area you can save some cash IMHO, is the controller.
Have you done any brewing yet? Congratulations on your retirement! ...Now: Tell us inquiring minds more about yourself and your goals so we can help you spend your entire pension! :p

I grabbed the below 15 gallon spike kettle off Facebook marketplace for $150. The plan is to build a recirculating biab system just like you linked, using the marketplace kettle as a base. I have a 1.5” Tri clamp denord 4500 w heating element from a previous project. I want to get the TD5 pump and all the remaining plumbing from Bobby. Also plan to DIY my own controller off the auber cube layout. Once I have the time I figure this would be a good project. I did extract kits years ago and enjoyed the process but nothing recently and nothing all grain. I figure pull the cord and jump right into all grain. What could go wrong? 🥳 I have 2 son in laws who love beer as plug in brew buddies.
