Well i thought i would drop a line and let everyone critique my brew day today.

American lager
8lbs 2-row
3lbs flaked maize
1oz hallertau 8.6% 15min
irish moss 5 min
saflager

Doughed in 1.3qts per pound------------went to 154 (perfect)
mashed for 45min

fly sparged with approx. 4 gallons 180f water

Boiled for 60minutes. Wort chiller could only get it down to about 85F with a trickle and the tap on cold at full blast (i hate summer). OG was at about 1.052 at 85F. was looking for a little higher. Also had two small boil overs. Other then poor efficiency and the boil overs everything went well.

Primary at 52F for two weeks, D rest at room temp for two days, then three degree walk down in secondary to 34F. Lager for at least two weeks and force carb.

Or a pond pump, 200gal/hr or higher can recirculate water through an ice bath. Works great for me and I think it would be cheaper than a pre-chiller unless you can get cheap copper.

To chill my wort i just take a huge big metal tub and two ten pound bags of ice and make a huge ice bath with cold water...chilled the wort to 78 degrees in 30 minutes
