I need some expert advise. I have been tracking a SN Torpedo recipe on the extract forum. It was done with a 3 gal. boil. I want to do a full 6 gal. boil to end up with a 5 gal. batch. This will be my first non-kit recipe and I have never really messed with any recipe calculators. This is where I need some help for the big guns. I have been playing around with the recipe on the TASTYBREW.com Recipe Calculator to try and get it to work out. I'll post the 3 gal. boil recipe and then I will post what I have on my numbers to see if anyone can help me.

3 GAL. BOIL RECIPE

Boil Time: 60 Minutes
Boil Size: 3 Gallons
Batch Size: 5 Gallons

1/2 lb. crystal 60L (Steeped)
7 lbs. light DME

Hop Schedule (Pellets in hop bag)
1.5 oz. Magnum (60')
1 tsp Irishh Moss (15')
1 oz. Crystal (5')
1 oz. Magnum (5')

0.5 oz. Magnum (DH)
0.5 oz. Crystal (DH)
0.5 oz. Citra (DH)

Full Boil Recipe I calculated

Boil Time: 60 Minutes
Boil Size: 6 Gallons
Batch Size: 5 Gallons

1/2 lb. crystal 60L (Steeped)
7.5 lbs. light DME

Hop Schedule (pellets in hop bag)
1 oz. Magnum (60')
1 tsp Irishh Moss (15')
1 oz. Crystal (5')
1 oz. Magnum (5')

0.5 oz. Magnum (DH)
0.5 oz. Crystal (DH)
0.5 oz. Citra (DH)

I get 65 IBUs in the Full Boil and something like 120 IBUs in the 3 Gallon boil. Did I calculate that right? What an I missing?

The Sierra Nevada website has Torpedo at 65 Bitterness units.

I guess I just don't have confidence in calculating my own recipe yet.

Any help here would be much appreciated.

I'll use Cali Ale yeast for what it is worth.

Thanks!!!!!
