I live in central Az and have excellent access to mesquite and not much else for smoking with. I'm wondering if one of you that lives in a hickory or fruit wood rich area would be interested in swapping an box of non-mesqite hardwood like apple or hickory for a box of mesqite? Any takers?

PS, I have limited access to pecan and citrus wood so no need for those two.

I would like to TRADE a produce box of mesquite for the same of fruit of hickory.

That's hard, because in some places there is a ban on moving around firewood/wood. When I've gone to Texas for the winter, I've wanted to do just that but we can't move firewood/wood through a couple of states (like Wisconsin).

HAHA, I 'll trade you some mesquite...What part of AZ are you in? we are about 8 miles west of Stanfield...

I'd hate to see the shipping costs on a box o' wood...

BTW, I was offering a 100% legit way to get other woods. I've used hickory and mesquite before, and quickly got tired of both. IMO, they're done to death by almost every bbq joint out there. Give me some sugar maple and black cherry and I'm a happy man. :ban:

I'd just like to know where I can buy chips in bulk. I can only find small bags at the home improvement store around here. Seems like I've started smoking something once a week lately.

I'm in Chandler (S/W of PHX) What do you have?

Just kidding, same things you probably have, except we have ironwod out here, don't see them in any substantial size in most of the newer hoods in the Phoenix. I don't think you can get much from ironwood for smoke, true to it's name, Ironwood is a very hard chainsaw killing wood...

We have 40 to 50 palos, a dozen or so mesquites and Ironwoods. Palo Verde is actually nice to cook with, sweet and neutral, but it burns hot and quickly so better for grilling from what i have found
.

I have tons of whiskey barrel staves that I'd be willing to trade.

I need staves to make some of these.

Petie - PM me, I'm working on a large project for a brewery and will have several barrels that will probably be surplus.

I guess it depends on how big of a bag you are looking for and what kind of wood you're after, but the HD in my area sells larger bags of oak, mesquite and hickory. The fruit and nut woods usually come in smaller bags.

Maybe you could buy some off a local BBQ joint?
