Smoked Marzen Small Batch on Big Brew Day 2025

Another Big Brew Day is in the books! I brewed up a small batch BIAB Smoked Marzen today.

Unfortunately, the equipment I was using didn't do as well as I had hoped. I ended up borrowing some equipment to make it work, I am still learning. The good news is the numbers I was looking for came in exactly where I wanted them so that helped a little. It is always pleasing when the numbers work out right during a brew. Just need to wait for the fermentation process and see what happens then.

Awesome! Our small club (10-12 people) got together and brewed four batches: two pale ales, chocolate milk stout, and one other one that I forget. We all pitched in milling grain, mashing in, chilling, grilling food, etc. so it was a group effort all around.

Nice! We had only 4 guys in my club show up to brew for Big Brew Day this year. Italian Pils for myself and the others brewed a Vienna, Pale Ale with purple pea blossoms and a honey Kolsch.

We had 5 brewing on site, but we have a local brewery prepare the wort for the club, then we all make something from that. We brew in their parking lot. Several club members just picked wort to brew at home. It's nice as it really limits the stuff you need to haul and speeds up the day. Everyone also took extra wort home as the minimum the brewery's system can do is 150gal. Anyway, most everyone did some kind of IPA/APA as that was the club challenge for the June meeting. My onsite beer was a Session Citra and the wort I brought home was an American Barley Wine.
