Exactly, no. Close though.

My notes vs. Smithwicks: A slight bit more hops to the nose. Color pretty close. Touch less roast in the finish.

Subscribed. Was looking for this just today as my St. Patty's Day brew. Like it better than Guinness, actually.

Thank you very much! I will have to try this for my next brew. I love smith wicks and would love to brew something like it.

Taking a hint from the previous post, I went looking on the interwebs, and Northern Brewer has both an Irish red Ale and an Irish draught Ale kit. Don't know how close to Smithwick's, but one reviewer mentioned that name for the draught Ale and both kits get great reviews. Might be worth a try.

I'll have to order this then..the reviews do look amazing. Thank yiu!

I wish Austin listed ingredients or a link to the directions with a list on their site.
I personally don't like paying shipping and inflation charges on stuff I can go pick up from my LHBS.
Anyone have an idea of what the all-grain kit consists of?

Well, I made a red a couple months ago that the Irish-raised roomie said reminded him of Smithwicks. (pronounced Smiddiks apparently) He went through the keg before I could do a comparison, so YMMV.

Maris Otter Ale Malt 92.6%
Belgian Roasted Barley 3.7%
Carared 3.7%

Fuggles 1oz 90min
East Kent Goldings 0.8oz 20min
East Kent Goldings 1oz 5min

Yeast: WLP090

My notes say I wanted more aroma and nuttiness, even though that's a bit out of spec for a red.

I do hate paying shipping and would love to know the ingredients to get things from my LHBS...

Subscribed. I just tried to make an Irish Red and it didn't quite turn out. It'll be a few batches before I try again. So many beers to make...

Here's the recipe I used, turned out awesome and real close to Smithwicks.

1.3% Chocolate Malt (20 EBC = 10.2 SRM) 36 grams = 0.08 pounds
1.3% Roasted Barley (15 EBC = 7.6 SRM) 36 grams = 0.08 pounds
1.3% Special Roast (10 EBC = 5.1 SRM) 36 grams = 0.08 pounds
