I moved my northern brewer smashing pumpkin over to secondary today. I tasted a bit of the wort and there was a sharp metallic flavor to it. What could this be and should I be concerned?

Could be your kettle, your water, your hops, or your extract. Some commercial beers taste metallic to me. Ride it out and if you don't like the end result you'll have to use process of elimination to figure out what's causing it. If you're not using a new kettle then I'd probably go with extract as the likely cause.

Wait, did you use pumpkin puree out of can?

did not use puree from can. I used distilled water. It could be the kettle or extract. Why would the extract cause a taste like this?
