So I'm currently as we speak mashing my 2 pounds of marris otter for a 1 gallon trial batch and am fixing to do 3.5 grams/.125 ounce cascade hopps additions at 60 min 30 min and 15 min of the boil.

OG: 1.057
IBU:36.63

Have any of you tried this combination? I want something to compare it too once finished.

Also, yes I know 1 gallon batches are alot of work for 10 beers but I love trying new hop profiles and it's a good way for me to learn faster. (Also going to be trying a quarter of a whirlfloc tablet for clarity)

1gallon batches are great for this stuff.
If you fall in your head you can pour it down the drain without crying as hard or having to stomach drinking 50 beers you don't like.
I will be curious how it turns out. I typically only dry hop with Cascade because I have heard the flavor and aroma oils are pretty volatile in the boil.
Somewhere around here there is a huge thread for 1 gallon Brewers but I haven't visited because the damn thing is like 5000 post long.
My next 1 gallon batch will be SMaSH Vienna and Chinook.
Post back how your turns out.

Nothing wrong with proofing a recipe on a 1 gallon batch.

Also, we call 3.5 grams an eighth at my house. :D

I am currently fermenting a MO/Cascade SMASH, so sorry but no help here (yet). I'd also take other's opinions with a grain of salt. Could you potentially just knock out two batches in one day?

I think I hit 1.059 OG, but mashed a bit too high at ~158F. 1oz FWH, 1oz at 90 min and 1 oz at flameout is what I ended up doing...

What color did yours come out st and what yeast did you use?
Once I put on my top off water to 1 gallon I was right at 1.059 so we shall see

I made SMaSH recipes with MO

1) MO-Cascade
2) MO-Centennial
3) MO-EKG

MO-Cascade was by far my favorite.
1.056 OG
1oz. FWH
1oz 60
0.5oz 30, 20, 5 and flameout

Then I did the same and dry hopped with an additional ounce for a 4th batch

I used Nottingham. My color so far is similar to yours (no surprise)...

I think I'll do 1 oz of dryhop as well. :tank:

Very odd color, my Temps were right on throughout mash. I used saffale s04, started half pack in a 1/2cup of warm water and pitched. This is first all grain batch I've ever done by myself, so I'm a little worried.

First time I used MO it was 10lbs with fresh picked Cacscade hops. One of my favourite beers to date.

call me crazy, but I can't get into single hopping with cascade. the flavor just doesn't jump out at me enough to care for it. I love the herbal, woodsy flavor, but only when combined with something else. My cascade-simcoe IPA is one of my favorites

I did a M.O. Simco smash last spring. One of the best IPAs I've made so far! It's back on my short list so I have some for the summer months. I also think I'll be doing a M.O. Cascade smash soon. I have 55lbs of M.O. and 1lb of cascade pellets waiting for a boil! Can't wait to see how yours turns out. Keep us informed!

Also check out 15 minute cascade pale ale. It uses DME for a quick boil. Just scale it down to a one gallon recipe and swap hops and /or extract to experiment with smashes. I have 2 one gallon experiments going now!

I love my one gallon batches. I have a book with all my recipes and one day I'll be able to move up to 5-10gal batches and love every beer I brew😀

So I forgot to take a picture on the pour, week into bottle conditioning and the beer is amazing. Not fully carbed, (figured it wouldn't be) but wow this is a good simple beer. Definitely something I could put a 12 pack of down easy. Can smell the hops on the aroma, but the MO is coming through with a slight bready smell to compliment it. On the initial taste there is the cascade coming through but no bite on the finish. Overall a smooth easy drinking beer, great for summertime and getting your significant other into enjoying your homebrews. I will update once the beer is fully carbed and get a good picture of the head retention and etc.
