Smack or not?

When making a yeast starter from a smack pack do you have to smack the pack before making the starter or can you just pour the yeast from the flat pack into the starter wort?

you can pour straight for the pack, I normally smack it anyways a little before pitching it into my starter. Not going to hurt anything either way
