I am still working out a system for brewing outdoors. One of my ongoing concerns has been skunking from brewing in a sunny location. Is there any reason to think that skunking will not occur when brewing/cooling outdoors in the sun?

Skunking does not occur when brewing outside.

Thanks for the quick reply, but just for my own edification and peace of mind, why would it not?

It would be great if I didn't need to fart around with devising a system for shade (too many birds to be under the trees), but it strikes me that isomerized hops + sunlight would be a recipe for skunky beer.

If that were the case, then things like the NATIONAL HOMEBREW DAY BIG BREW DAY, would have to happen at night, eh? ;)

NOT.

Hops skunking has to do with the interraction of isomerized alpha acids, and sunlight in fermented beer. Not unfermented wort.

think of the timescales: a couple hours is what fraction of a month or more in sunlight after bottling?

Think also of the color and translucency of the wort vs. finished beer as well as the wort composition vs. finished beer.
