Had a bunch of sick people quarantined in a bedroom of my house Thursday-Sunday. Couldn't really leave the house because I was the on call nurse, so I decided to take on the long awaited project of building my new brew stand. I heat mash/sparge water in my kettle & mash in a cooler, lauter into brew buckets for measuring purposes, then dump the buckets back into my kettle. Its not ideal, but works well for my needs for now. What I needed was a mobile brew stand that my pump & chiller were mounted to. The term "need" is obviously subjective.
Started out with a heavy duty metal rolling cabinet that was an unused extra from a work project. Its extremely heavy with anti tip weights on all sides and heavy load rating casters.
Installed a side pickup in my kettle.
New Cam Lock fittings on the plumbing.
Mounted my pump to the side of the cabinet.
Mounted a bracket to the cabinet, and my plate chiller onto the bracket.
Leak check and testing the new whirlpool function. Works pretty good. I threw some fish tank rocks in and after a few minutes they were all piled up right in the center of the kettle.
Ran out of plumbing pieces (and money), but future plans are another port for my whirlpool inlet, & an on/off switch for the pump. The guys at work are cutting me a piece of high temp resistant epoxy countertop to put on the cabinet & act as a heat shield for the pump.
Certainly not fancy, but would probably be a great build for the brew in a bag crowd.
