Just to clarify, you can safely transport gas bottles on their side. Just protect that valve!
It starts at post 6812Compressed gas bottles should always be stored and used upright and secured. The brass valves are rather brittle. Break a valve, and your bottle becomes a short-range ballistic missile.
Here ya go. First shot is with my $3 Lowes table legs which some folks thought looked like a Doc Johnson product.
I then got my custom made handles on there. There is a guy in San Antonio who makes these. He'll burn in any inscription you wish.

Mine is a very common Danby conversion. With a few higher end features. I'm sure most of you have seen hundreds of these.
