Is there any benefit to making a show mead instead of just a traditional using nutrients other than entering in competitions?

IMO, no.

We go to a lot of effort, to make the fermented honey drink known as mead. Yes, its current recommended practice, to use methods adapted from the wine industry.

So what, really, is the point of making things even harder, by trying to use so called purist methods ?

After all, we're just trying to make something that harks back over a thousand years, with modern methods, because there are no real records of how it was actually made in the dark ages. They're not called that for nothing........
