I have been a Mr Beer brewer and finally upgraded to a Better Bottle and 5 gallon batches, and I just finished my first 5 gal batch, it is starting fermentation in a 6 gallon Better Bottle. Everything went fine for me except I didn't realize how much I depended on the spigot on the little Mr Beer fermenter.
I am having somewhat of a tough time checking the temp and gravity. I tried using a turkey baster (I don't like that). When I bought the better bottle I considered the extra cost for the add-on spigot a little pricey and figured I could do without it. Now I wonder if I should get one for the next batch.
I hope I can get a few opinions; should I buy the spigot or get a better beer thief or what?

I have better bottles and I use a wine thief for sampling and an auto siphon for transfers. I can see what would happen to the spigot if I had one
But that is also why I didn't go with glass carboys. :mug:

I use a long stainless turkey baster (from Northern Brewer?) and an auto siphon.

The spigots look cool, but they also look hard to clean and I would need three since I have three 6-gallon BB's in rotation.
