My mother has informed me that she bought a brewers best kit last June for Christmas. I think it was on sale. I also think it is a red ale. It has LME, 8 oz of crystal 120 and 1 oz. of chocolate. Here are my questions for any of you experts out there.

Yeast? (I will purchase a fresh one)

The grains are probably cracked. Are the OK to use?

Does LME keep well?

Should I use the hops (pellet probably)?

Bless my mother's heart to buy such a great gift. She was the one that was worried about the yeast being old, but am needing some more advice. I would love any feedback.

It should be fine. I would definitely look at the expiration date on the yeast and get new yeast if they have expired. Toss the old yeast into the boil to give the new yeasts some nutrients.
